DOWNEY, CA - NEGLECTED GERMAN SHEPHERD IN DESPERATE NEED OF A FOSTER ASAP - HIS EARS ARE CHOPPED OFF & HE HAS SCARS ALL OVER. WAS SCHEDULED TO BE KILLED BUT VOLUNTEERS BEGGED FOR A FEW MORE DAYS. PLS CLICK PIC & READ COMMENTS FOR MORE INFO! (A)

Many times as a rescuer, you are at the shelter and by chance, you get the story of a dog who is turned in by his owner, or the details of where a dog was found and what his or her story is…However, most times they are nameless animals, with only an intake ID number, where we can only guess and speculate about their past. But meet Luke. This one photo of him tells the story of a thousand words. The story of heartache, despair, abuse and neglect. His ears have been completely chopped off, he has scars all over his face and neck. He is just so scared. He was due to be euthanized today, but Linda, a shelter volunteer has begged for a few more days for him. The shelter does not have his picture on their website, so he is like a ghost in the shelter with no chance of being saved. But this is chance, here he is, let’s tell him that he is not forgotten, that he has a future, and that we think he is beautiful! His heart wrenching past has not broken his spirit. He is the most beautiful soul ever. He is full of love. Has lots of scars, no ears at all. His back legs look a little weak. He is very thin and he is about 7 years old.Tonight he was laying on the cold concrete floor so Linda gave him a bed and blanket and he curled up in ball and wagged his tail at her. There is another Downey volunteer that is willing to pay for food and medical for him.He needs a rescue with a foster to take him IMMEDIATELY or he WILL DIE without ever knowing the simple pleasure of a family. Please, I am on my knees begging for mercy for this angel, who has never know love, goodness or kindness till he was blessed and embraced by Linda and other dedicated Downey Volunteers who are fighting for him. Despite his past, he is full of forgiveness and love, and this is one dog that deserves to live out his life surrounded by the love of a family that cherishes him. As my young son Wyatt says, Luke needs a collar with a name tag so that he knows he is safe and has a family who loves him. Who can give him this beautiful, priceless gift???Animal ID# A4183774Kennel# 115Downey Shelter11258 S. Update:
SWEET SENIOR CHI WAS ADOPTED ♥ (A)

Update: I apologize my last update wasn’t right. I think I may have mistaken this senior chi for another OR the updater of the original post was mistaken. Here’s an actual update on TJ.
**TJ, safe but your help still needed!**Some of you may remember TJ, the 10yr senior chihuahua who was surrendered (more accurately dumped/abandoned/left to die) by his former owners at a high volume, high kill LA-are shelter. Dogs like TJ don’t usually make it out alive, but TJ beat the odds. He didn’t do it on his own, of course—Dori Hubbard-Julian, whom many of you know pulled TJ yesterday and he is now safe. However, a negative consequence of pulling dogs from overcrowed shelters, where generally dogs are kept 2-4 per kennel, is most dogs left in the shelter long enough come down with kennel cough. Kennel cough is relatively easy and inexpensive to treat, but left untreated (as again, happens in high volume shelters,) kennel cough becomes pneumonia and pneumonia *is not so easy and inexpensive to treat*.So, you guessed it, 10yr old TJ has been diagnosed with pneumonia. Dori’s vet bill to treat TJ is $298.00. This, needless to say, was an unexpected development: the fact is, most of the time when you pull a dog from a shelter you really don’t know what kind of health issue your personal vet may find when you take them in for aftercare. Believe me, it’s not fun to put up these pleas for funds for sick dogs, and generally the way it works is most people will donate money to get a dog out of the shelter, but after the dog is pulled donors’ attention shifts to other animals. I understand that, but please everyone, Dori Hubbard-Julian is probably responsible for about 25% or more of the pulls you see happening on this page. Dori, like most dog rescuerers, isn’t independently wealthy. (If there is such a thing as an independently wealthy animal rescuer, chances are they won’t stay that way for long, lol!) And sadly, most people willing to adopt a shelter dog like TJ are not willing to pay the kind of adoption fees necessary to offset his vet bills. Brass tacks: having to pay such large vet bills for sick rescue dogs like TJ out of her own pocket severely impacts Dori’s ability to rescue any more dogs. But Dori did the right thing by this dog: TJ certainly didn’t deserve to die in that shelter over an untreated case of kennel cough, so now Dori needs our support. Please, if you can help by sending even a small donation to Dori to help offset TJ’s vet expenses, please paypal to her at dorijulian@aol.com. You can send it under gift, and make a notation “vet costs for TJ”. Thanks, everyone. tlrhttp://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1315363451#!/photo.php?pid=5075815&id=265315397896&fbid=439384937896&ref=mf
